When betting odds on the 5 or 9, always make sure that you bet in even dollar increments. For example, if you bet $5, you will be penalized. True odds payout would be $7.50, but since most casinos do not have 50 cent chips, the casino will round down and pay $7. There are a number of reasons the 3-Point Molly Strategy is so popular.
- It’s easy to learn and execute
- It offers ‘free’ odds bets which give you the best payouts
- Maximizing the odds behind the pass/come bets will lower the house edge, and
- It’s the system most often taught to new players by the dealers and casinos
While you’ll mostly find a novice player using the 3-Point Molly Strategy and their main betting strategy, you’ll also run into some experienced and advanced players using this strategy on ‘Hot’ tables only and when maximizing the betting on their own signature numbers.
Here’s how the 3-Point Molly Strategy Works (Example $10 Table)
- Craps can be an intimidating game for the beginner. The table seems to have about a hundred different kinds of bets, the players are barking out commands in what seems to be a foreign language, and the pace is too fast to ever ask a question. I can sympathize with the beginner, because at one point in time this was how craps appeared to me.
- Craps is all about throwing dice (unless you're in an Indian Casino where they only use cards) and hoping they roll a number you're betting on. Anyone betting can roll the dice!
- Place a $10 Pass Line Bet on the Come Out Roll
- A 7 or 11 you win $10, a 2, 3, or 12 you lose
- Add 3X Odds behind your Pass Line Bet when a point is established
- Place a $10 Come Bet on the next roll
- A 7 or 11 you win $10, a 2, 3, or 12 you lose
- Otherwise, your Come Bet travels to the point rolled
- Add 3X Odds to your Come Bet
- Place another $10 Come Bet on the next roll
- A 7 or 11 you win $10, a 2, 3, or 12 you lose
- Otherwise, your Come Bet travels to the point rolled
- Add 3X Odds to your 2nd Come Bet
Assuming none of your numbers hit on the first 3 rolls, you now have 3 numbers in play and gives you a good chance of hitting on one or more of your Pass / Come bets.
- If you’re Pass Line bet wins – replace the bet for the next come out roll
- If one of your Come Bets wins – place another Come Bet
We already mentioned some of the advantages to this system above including; ease to execute, lower house advantage, and the casinos teaching this as a standard strategy to use at the tables.
Let’s look at some of the disadvantages of the 3-Point Molly Strategy
The first sign that there are disadvantages to this strategy is that it is the primary strategy that the casinos teach
- A seven will show up every 6 rolls ‘on average’ and it takes you 3 rolls to put your strategy in place
- You have to hit each number twice to win (once to move to the point, again to win)
- If your point wins, you’re come bets are at risk to the 7 on the next come out roll
- (You lose your come bets, but your odds bets on those come bets are returned to you)
- While lowering the ‘house edge’ in the long run is important, in the short term the ‘house edge’ only counts if you win.
- While this strategy works on ‘Hot’ tables, I’ve seen novice players wipe out their bankrolls on choppy and cold tables.
Despite the disadvantages, there are times when the 3-Point Molly Strategy is a good strategy to have in your toolbox when the table trends call for it.
VARIATIONS
There are a number of variations to this strategy that work very well for various bankrolls, risk tolerance and table situations. Experiment or alter them to find the variation that works best for you.
- Use a 2-Point Molly – One Pass Line Bet with odds + one Come Bet with Odds
- Use either a positive or negative progression applied to wins or loses
- Increase or decrease the odds behind your Pass/Come bets
- Don’t replace your Pass/Come bets as they hit and rack the profits
There is also a variation that uses a Pass Line bet with odds and uses place bets on 2 numbers (typically the 6 & 8) instead of Come bets.
